People join NAMI for a variety of reasons. Some are looking for support and education to help in their own recovery. Others join because someone they love has a mental illness and they want to help. Mental health professionals join and lend valuable support to NAMI’s advocacy efforts to help improve New Mexico’s mental health system.

When you join a NAMI New Mexico Affiliate, you automatically become a member of our state organization, NAMI New Mexico, as well as the NAMI National organization. As as result, you will receive newsletters and information that keep you up-to-date on developments affecting mental health at the local, state and national levels. Just a few benefits of being a member:

  • The NAMI Newsletter all about happenings related to mental health.
  • Email notices from Affiliate, State and National NAMI organizations with information about upcoming seminars, class, and other events.
  • The NAMI Advocate – a national newsletter published at least twice a year with a variety of topics relating to mental health.

  • Access to online discussion groups
  • Discounts to attend the annual NAMI National conference.

As a NAMI member, your voice counts. By joining you make your concern felt and your voice heard locally, in Santa Fe and Washington when lawmakers debate issues related to mental health. You join with over 300,000 NAMI members nationwide, and thousands in New Mexico who seek to end the stigma associated with illnesses that affect 1 in 4 New Mexicans. The more members we have the more the politicians will listen!

At your NAMI affiliate You Will Find

  • A network of friends who care and understand. We welcome peers, parents, relatives, friends, and professionals who share in a desire to help with the challenges of living with mental illness.
  • We hold monthly membership meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
  • Support groups to help you take care of yourself and your family.
    • A chance to share your experiences and to learn from others.
  • Classes that help education peers and family about mental illness.
    • Information about brain disorders, treatment and services.
  • Opportunities to advocate for improving and expanding services and facilities.

What does Membership Cost?

NAMI National updated membership dues on July 1, 2017. These changes impact all affiliates across the country.

The changes include:

  • The new membership category is “Household” (Family) and will be $60;
  • The Standard membership category is now called “Individual/Regular” that will be $40;
  • Open Door will be increased to $5.

If your membership is up for renewal and you want to add another year to your current membership, or you want to join as a new member, you can visit: www.nami.org/membership to update your membership and pay membership dues.

  • The Standard membership category is called “Individual/Regular” and costs $40 annually;
